Positive Parenting     (FREE Positive Parenting Classes)

Integrative Counseling offers individual, couples, children and family counseling because it is difficult to raise children and many parents are looking for relief from parental stressors. Throughout history, parents have experienced challenges in parenting. Socrates, the famous Greek Philosopher said, "Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble their food, and tyrannize their teachers." (469 BC - 399 BC) Having raised a boy and a girl with her husband, Stephanie Nickel, M.A. has practical as well as academic knowledge regarding parenting and family dynamic issues. Stephanie has been trained to view families from a 'systems' perspective, so the whole family is her overall concern ~ not just the "identified patient" or the acting out child or children.

Stephanie has received additional training by Dr. Matthew A. Johnson, in how to help families deal with difficult behaviors of children. The following is a quotation from the forward of his book, Positive Parenting with a Plan Grades K-12: "An absence of structure afflicts a vast number of contemporary American families. There are many sources of this dreadful phenomenon including substance abuse, mental illness, divorce, illegitimacy, financial pressures, and moral inadequacy, to name just a few. Whatever the primary sources of the lack of family structure may be, the absence of structure itself invariably leads the family further down the spiral of despair, dysfunction, disease and delinquency. Dr. Matthew A. Johnson, ("Dr. J") and his FAMILY Rules parenting system offer a powerful alternative to family chaos. FAMILY Rules presents a solid and coherent structure for families in need. . . While FAMILY Rules is highly structured, it is not rigid. Within the structure is plenty of room for individuality and creativity just as the rules of basketball leave room for the individuality and creativity of a Michael Jordan or a Dr. J. Families who understand and correctly and consistently implement FAMILY Rules will be protected from many of the most pernicious ills of our time. I am pleased to recommend FAMILY Rules." Hillel I. Swiller, MD, FAPA, FAGPA, Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York.

Stephanie helps families learn how to become better at managing the multitude of challenges they face by utilizing her counseling skills and Dr. Johnson's system for helping parents gain more of a handle on parenting.

The first session is always free of charge! Referrals to other counselors are provided if the prospective client does not feel like he or she can work well with Stephanie.
